More IR35 wins for PCG members

The Professional Contractors Group (PCG) was originally formed to protest against a new measure called IR35, announced in 1999. Its unfairness and complexity remain the biggest single grievance and difficulty for freelance contractors, and whilst PCG represents freelance consultants and contractors on a broad range of issues now, IR35 is still a major concern for members.

PCG and its Affiliates maintain a superb record in fighting IR35, with over 1,200 cases won so far and only three lost. PCG remains the only organisation putting the views of freelancers to Government and continues to lobby for the abolition of IR35 and its replacement with arrangements that meet its original stated aims.

Two more PCG members have reported winning their IR35 cases this month. One, whose PAYE/IR35 investigation lasted just four months, was very relieved to discover that all his company’s contracts fell outside IR35. His case was handled by Abbey Tax, through PCG’s insurance cover for PCGPlus members. "Their professional help made all the difference,” he says, “and I would definitely recommend PAYE Audit Cover to any who do not have it yet."

Another PCG member endured an IR35 investigation that lasted ten times as long, 40 months. HM Revenue & Customs finally gave up on the investigation, much to his relief.

PCG helps its members, who are legitimate contractors, avoid the impact of IR35 in a number of ways. Its case law strategy has resulted in some memorable victories for its members in recent years.
