Contractors embody ability, aptitude, agility: the theme of National Freelancers Day

Contractors bring ‘ability, aptitude and agility’ to their clients and this is the theme of this year’s PCG National Freelancers Day to be held on 21st November 2013. Among many events around the country, will be a debate at the London Symphony Orchestra’s St Luke’s venue in central London.

Businesswomen and Apprentice star Karren Brady will be joined on the panel by political editor of the Sunday Times, Isabel Oakeshott, Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, John Glen MP, LBC’s Nick Ferrari and BBC broadcaster, Liz Barclay.

Broadcaster and life-long freelancer, Sue Lawley, will host the evening, which will be a Question Time-style debate on the impact of flexible working on the economy.

In addition, Strictly Come Dancing contestant Rachel Riley is “taking a look at the emergence of the freelance sector through a series of videos” to be published online in the coming weeks.

“National Freelancers Day celebrates the fantastic work of freelancers, contractors and entrepreneurs and it’s great to see so many high profile individuals supporting our unique and important way of working,” says PCG chairman Julie Stewart.

The debate will be broadcast online with two more guests from the UK’s financial sector, Peter Ibbetson, former Chairman of Small Business at the Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest, and Jayne Atherton, Business Editor of Metro.

Ibbetson and Atherton will be streamed live from PCG’s Westminster office and will be answering questions from viewers via Twitter, email and telephone.

“Considering freelancers contribute £88 billion to the UK economy every year and the number of people freelancing is up 82% in the last ten years, it is vitally important to understand, appreciate, protect and support the work that they do. National Freelancers Day is the perfect way to do just that,” adds Stewart.
