Have Your Say: What steps for tax simplification for contractors?

Contractors Handbook

How can tax law for contractors be made simpler?

Experts have been calling for an overall simplification of tax law for some years. Some aspects on tax avoidance like IR35 have been repeatedly damned as badly drafted and hard to apply. But a great deal of tax law needs clarity.

Shouldn't you know what you can deduct from expenses or not without consulting an accountant? Shouldn't it be clear how to write your contracts so that the tax status is easy to understand? Shouldn't we have a clear definition of self-employment?

Do you have a specific suggestion for simplifying contractor tax? Tell us about it.

Get rid of IR35 and the MSC legislation, and replace with a single tax figure for contractors - somewhere in between the tax you pay inside or outside IR35 - it's easy to adminstrate and everyone wins.
