Have Your Say: How should contractors sell themselves?

Are you good at selling yourself? Are you able to talk your way into more lucrative contracts?

It's not enough, as a contractor, to just be good at what you do. You have to be able to communicate that to the agencies and the clients.

This means understanding how to make a convincing sales pitch, how to tweak your CV so that it shows what's best about you, and how to talk the client into believing that you can handle the work on offer.

I'd advise all contractors to read books on sales. Continually focus on the clients need, the skills you can offer, and the benefits to them.

Also, when you've done something good a client, make sure they know about it. And when I say 'they' I mean the decision makers - the ones who write the cheques.
