Have Your Say: How will contractors cope with agency workers legislation?

IR35 Test

How do you think the Agency Workers legislation will change the way we work?

It looks more and more likely that some form of the legislation will become law in the UK in the next two years. We will all be obliged to take vacation pay, sick pay, etc.

Certainly this will affect how much we earn. But will the contractors who are most in demand manage to maintain their income levels? If companies want to work with us, will they still pay more? Will we still be able to enjoy a flexible lifestyle?

How much of what we treasure in contracting will be lost because of this legal change? Let us know what you think?

I can't really this this going through in it's current form. Even if it did I'm not convinced it would have such a dramatic effect for limited company based contractors.

Agencies will simply change how they work to get around the rules. So rather than pay an on going margin, the agent might charge an introduction fee for introducing one business (the contractor) to another (the client). This might encourage agencies and clients to work hard to get everyone involved outside IR35 - and thus this could turn out to be an own goal for the government!
