This is step 6 of our guide Contracting in the UK.
BEFORE signing any contract you MUST consider the IR35 Tax Legislation.
It will be virtually impossible to get changes made to the contract after you have signed it.
Ignoring this could result in you being treated for tax purposes as a ‘deemed employee’. The financial impact of IR35 on contractors is significant.
You can calculate how IR35 might affect you personally using the IR35 Tax Calculator.
You can avoid being caught by IR35 by getting your contract reviewed by a professional lawyer and then negotiating your contract terms for IR35 compliance BEFORE you sign the contract.
For more information see our dedicated section on IR35
After you have negotiated hopefully favourable IR35 contract terms you will need to negotiate your rate.
